“He had every chance to rape me but he didn’t” aren’t the most encouraging words of support that one would like to hear when facing sexual assault charges, but openly gay actor Matthew Smith chose them to speak out in support of the beleaguered Bryan Singer. For the first time in Drag Race history, the queens were joined by six real-life heterosexual couples to be married on the main stage in honor of marriage equality (??) — their challenge, of course, was to turn the burly heterosexual grooms into blushing brides. Hi,My name is Bama, and I'm a porn hoarder. It's not something I'm proud to admit, but I heard that admitting your problem is the first step to recovery. So, if ever I blow up and surpass the superstardom of Kirk Franklin, I want you all to hear it here. Bama's got a porn problem! But I figure, it's not like I'm addicted to hardcore party drugs like quaaludes, so. . . can I live? Here's the thing, porn has played a MAJOR part in my development since I was in middle school, and I blame it all on these little f*ckers here! Those AOL CD ROM free trial disks were made by the devil, and I allowed…

  • Matt Bomer Reveals A Big Secret — He’s Been Married For Years

    Jeremy Kinser

Perhaps playing a con man on White Collar has taught Matt Bomer how to keep things on the DL. Or perhaps it comes from sharing a home with longtime partner, super publicist Simon Halls. Whatever the reason the 36-year-old actor knows how to deliver a bombshell. Bomer first publicly acknowledged that he is a gay man when he thanked Halls and their three sons during an award acceptance speech in 2012, but now in a cover story for Details, the star of HBO’s upcoming The Normal Heart reveals that he and Halls have been married for three years. Bomer also discusses his long…

BY LISA KEEN To say there’s been a flurry of discussion around the release of a new book Tuesday on the legal case that challenged California’s Proposition 8 would be an understatement. The book, Forcing the Spring, by New York Times writer Jo Becker, has been thoroughly pilloried by many plugged-in LGBT activists and journalists this week, both publicly and privately. While a few have attempted to cut Becker some slack for documenting some behind-the-scenes litigation and political strategies, most fault her for an approach that seems hell-bent on making Human Rights Campaign President…

It’s Earth Day! I kept the TV off , the lights off, and didn’t drive anywhere. I spent time in the garden, looking at the bees and Gulf Fritillary butterflies busy among the passion flower vines. The mockingbirds are back, and the bushtits have several nests in the trees–they are really tiny cute little brown birds, very social, and the single males watch the nests while the mom and dad go looking for seeds and aphids. Skunks have been digging for grubs in the lawn. I love skunks; they eat slugs, snails and black widows, so I don’t mind if they occasionally turn up a few inches of…

The phrase ‘they share a long history’ does not come close to elucidating what is happening today. Actually, the phrase most often heard is that Ukrainians and Russians share a long history, and this illustrates the fact that even news analysts haven’t a clue as to what is motivating the protagonists in this drama. Americans who have spent time among Western Europeans notice the…

This is a function Google implemented to prevent what might be offensive searches appearing dynamically while users are typing another word. Not only is…

Do you remember the raspberry patches that we scoured when we were children? Every summer, they would flourish under the reign of the northern latitude sun, and bespeckle the forest with red. The plump, delicious denizens were happy to indulge their patrons with the payment of potential reproduction. And yet, they strictly punished the vices of overindulgence, leaving us sanguine and beleaguered. When sun stretched into the far corner of the sky, I saw the light reflected in your eyes and wondered whether you could see it reflected within mine. The fading light brought the forest repose, and…

I just recently enjoyed writing again; it has been several years. As a gay writer (though not professionally), I used to create descriptive poems based on experiences of love and lust, perhaps because of the necessity for an outlet based on the oppressive pressures of society. However, as a married, stable man, I feel less pressure to document the subconscious tumult of troubled, youthful mind. I'm still trying to discover the personal purpose that writing has for me; there is definitely a cathartic, introspective component to it.

Why has the US Supreme Court accepted the validity of same-sex "marriage", which, until a decade ago, was unheard of in the history of Western or any other civilization? Where has the "gay rights" movement come from, and how has it so easily conquered America? The answers are in the dynamics of the rationalization of sexual misbehavior. The power of…

News: The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia on Tuesday agreed not to press charges against the second of two women implicated in the beating of Miles DeNiro, who performs in drag as Heidi Glüm, in a Manny & Olga's restaurant last June after the suspect, Raymone Harding of Gaithersburg, complied with the terms of a deferred-sentencing agreement offered to both women in September. Both women were required to plead guilty to the assault in exchange for having the charges and the guilty plea dropped if they complied with the terms of the deferred-sentencing agreement.

  • Ding-A-Lings of Spring: Political pregnancies, creationists and cattle-rancher Cliven

    22 Apr 2014 | 1:30 pm
Opinion: The rain of ridiculous ravings from America's political right continued unabated as spring took hold. Let's look at a few examples. Last week, Chelsea Clinton announced that she and hubby Marc Mezvinsky are expecting a child. Conspiracy mongers in the right-wing media went crazy. Steve Malzberg of Newsmax suggested, based on a thick file of nothing, that the pregnancy was deliberately timed to help Grandma Hillary's expected presidential campaign. Oh, sorry, he did have one bit of evidence: Chelsea had mentioned in an interview that her mom was constantly asking about grandchildren.

Consent is such a simple concept. Mother may I? Yes, you may. But in our culture, both in real-life and mass entertainment, the notion of consent and its importance too often blurs. So now, those blurred lines (thanks, or more like no thanks, Robin Thicke) become the norm.Spoiler Alert: This is the part where I warn you about my intent to throwdown about the shit that went down Sunday on “Game of Thrones.” This is also your trigger warning. So, now that everyone is properly warned…Let’s talk about how we have come to a place where we are even having a debate about whether Jaime rapes…

So last week news broke about The Real Alex Vause. The character is based on the character in Piper Kermann’s memoir by the same name. And, of course, real life and television life diverge in predictable (and unpredictable) ways. Vanity Fair ran the first interview with The Real Alex Vause, a.k.a. Catherine Cleary Wolters (who goes by Cleary). It will come as no surprise that she doesn’t look much like Laura Prepon. But, come on, who does? Though, they do both wear dark-rimmed clunky glasses. So, there’s that. Other key differences Cleary/Alex claims from as seen on teevee. 1) They…

Dr. Lauren Lewis is a human in a Fae world. A doctor and an activist. A lover and a fighter. Also, don’t get me started on her incredibly Hotpants. A pretty cool video of a huge intersection in Ethiopia in which drivers, and pedestrians, do amazingly well with no traffic lights. That’s the dilemma facing confirmed-bachelor and consummate world-traveler Aaron Schock.  You wouldn’t know it from many of the social media posts, but in addition to incessantly visiting exotic locations around the world and meeting lots of cute young guys, Schock is also the “conservative” seriously-anti-gay Republican congressman from smalltown Peoria, Illinois. To great fanfare, Schock’s Instragram account and Twitter feeds came out earlier this year in what, to many, was not a terribly…

A radio advertisement in Oregon’s GOP Senate primary between Monica Wehby and Jason Conger set a new standard for insidious genius. It’s no “Boats ‘N Hoes” scandal, but it’s a template for underhanded campaigning in the future. The winner in the May primary will face Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley in November. The spot targets Conger, a state representative with support among hard-core conservatives. One prong in the carbon kings’ pushback to protect their future profits is to deny climate change even exists, or to deny it’s man-made, or to assert that it’s inevitable anyway. But another prong is much more direct — to destroy the competitor, renewable energy, as an industry, in much the same way as GM destroyed the electric car as a purchasable product in the second half of the 20th century. Thus we find your usual suspects — David and Charles Koch, Americans for (David Koch’s) Prosperity, and ALEC — trying to take down the last best hope for humans (not an…

There are a number of issues that are considered risk factors for cardiac disease, that is, they increase the risk that someone may develop a heart attack. Some can be controlled or modified, others cannot. Since cardiac disease is the number one cause of mortality in the US, it’s important to look at these factors and work to decrease or modify those that can increase the threat of cardiovascular disease. In the past, all of those risk factors have been physical ones (age, hypertension, smoking and others). A growing body of evidence indicates that there may be at least one psychological…

A new academic review has surveyed the legal landscape for lesbian and gay parents in child custody cases, both with same-sex former partners and different-sex ones. It found that courts have not always taken into consideration the social science research that has found children raised by gay or lesbian parents are as well-adjusted as their peers raised by straight, cisgender parents. The review was conducted by Emily Haney-Caron, a J.D./Ph.D. candidate in Drexel University’s joint program in psychology and law, and Kirk Heilbrun, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at Drexel, and published…

Last Saturday, during our family trip to Washington, D.C., we visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and the Holocaust Museum. Going to the two of them one after the other (a decision originally dictated by geography) made me keenly aware of how injustice and oppression have played out in various ways throughout human history, and how people both famous and unnamed have stepped up to fight it. We have an ongoing and intersecting need to be alert for ways in which we can spread justice and freedom, both when it applies to us personally and when it doesn’t. But Dr. King himself said…

Will we actually get to meet the President or First Lady? They’re always at the event at some point, but the odds that they’ll be there during our time slot and that we’ll be in the right location among the crowd are slim. Two gay dads and their kids played a small but significant role in the evolution of President Obama and his administration on marriage equality. In “How the President Got to ‘I Do’ on Same-Sex Marriage,” a long but worthwhile article in the New York Times Magazine, investigative reporter Jo Becker explains that in April 2012, before the president or anyone in his administration had expressed public support for marriage equality, Vice President Joe Biden was at a gathering of gay Democrats at the home of HBO executive Michael Lombardo and his husband, architect Sonny Ward.

The official motto of the state of Texas is “friendship,” and for the majority of its citizens, that’s how they’d prefer to think about same-sex couples. Last month, when the bodies of a Houston same-sex couple were found tossed behind a convenience store dumpster, some local news reports referred to the women as “friends.” They had been together for two years, were raising a daughter together, and were murdered — possibly by one of their fathers — in a possible anti-gay hate crime, but even then, the only designation they had earned from…

Now that How I Met Your Mother has ended its long run, Emmy winner and former Doogie Howser child star Neil Patrick Harris is headed back to Broadway as the lead in a revival of Hedwig And The Angry Inch.Harris will be wearing heels and fishnets in the play, and for the new Vanity Fair he is wearing a snake down his pants, as photographed by Annie Leibowitz.Clearly this guy is out to change his image… and he has enough talent to pretty much pull anything off (rumour has it he was a contender for Letterman's job). Over the last couple of weeks two of my favourite shows, Scandal and The Good Wife, have had surprise twists and killed off major characters… both were surprising and heartbreaking and great drama. And both created really valuable social media buzz for these already buzzy shows. The Good Wife killed off leading man Will Gardner in a truly shocking moment, as the actor playing him, Josh Charles, wanted out of the series after five seasons. While he was not the 'bad' husband, Gardner was the true love of the 'good' wife and this death will play out for the run of the series.Scandal killed off…

Tonight we saw the much anticipated series finale of How I Met Your Mother, the sweet funny sitcom that ran for nine years and 208 episodes.Successful series often struggle with how to end, from St Elsewhere's 'it was all a snow globe dream' to Desperate Housewives' man-focussed dead people return, to Seinfeld's everybody goes to prison for being snarky to Lost just ending weird. Few series end well. But it can be done… Six Feet Under ended well, as did Cheers; Mary Tyler Moore had a sad funny ending. And Newhart had a classic clever throwback to the previous Bob Newhart series……

The study, conducted by King's College London and published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, is the first major study that assesses the long-term effects of childhood bullying. Earlier studies have observed the negative consequences of childhood bullying extending into the victim's 20s, but this latest research shows that these consequences persist through middle age. In January, a two-judge panel (which included one of the judges who issued the original ruling) rejected their first attempt to have the case…

This has been the winter to end all winters. Living in Chicago is such a blessing when the sun shines and the temperatures dance around the 75 degree mark. It is magical when the Cubbies play and Andersonville sidewalks flood with tank topped women and the street festivals pull one weekend into the next. I love my city – most of the time. Sludge and snow – ice and wind – frozen fingers and muted recollections of what fresh air actually smells like – that is what Chicago winter has been all about this year. Don’t get me wrong – it is not about the cold and the snow in general…

It’s a perfect statement and not just because it makes for an awesome title today, though that certainly helps. I was tempted to start this post off by asking if gay has become the new black. Why? Dictionary.com defines racism as “a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.” If you remove race from the definition and substitute it with heterosexuality vs homosexuality, you’re left with a snapshot of parts of the world today. The problem with asking if gay has become the new black, though, is that there are people who…

    22 Apr 2014 | 12:52 pm
Ok, who doesn't love bacon? The smell, the taste, the perfect breakfast meat...But we don't all do it great. Some microwave bacon - which is fast but not always great; some fry it - but it can burn easy if the fat cooks slow while the meat cooks fast. Here's a tried and true method from America's Test Kitchens:First spread out your bacon evenly in a pan on high heat. (Two rules of thumb for however you like your bacon are: always start with a hot pan and never overcrowd it), and cover the bacon with water. You want just enough water to cover the bacon. As Bryan Roof, the chef in this video,…

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Barilla, but opinions are my own. My beloved and I distinctly remember the moment.  We were sitting at our dinner table in our first wee home. We locked eyes, and said to each other: “We’re ready.”  Ready, finally, to take the leap from where we were – a family of two committed people – into the inky unknown of two-plus.  If we were the luckiest people in the world, we would be led into that unknown by a few small people we could call our children. Turns out we were indeed the luckiest people in the world.  My beloved’s will…

Finis unius diei est principium alterius, as the Romans used to say, when they existed and spoke Latin to one another daily.  Or, to the rest of us: the end of one day is the beginning of another. Thus, at the beginning of the year, do I close one looong chapter between (sufficiently paying) jobs, and with unbridled glee and gratitude, begin a fresh one.  Come Monday morning, I’ll be combed and pressed and striding into a building spitting distance from this sign, which I take as a very good sign indeed.

Inspiration how? I came of political age working all my spare collegiate hours in a student group entitled the Martin Luther, King, Jr. Convocation Day Committee (lovingly referred to as the MLKCDC).

It is conceivable that a judge could rule before the end of May and Same-sex marriage could be legal in the State of Pennsylvania before the start of June. This move was made possible in part because both sides, the ACLU as well as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania both agreed to allow the judge to rule based only on the briefs files and without a trial.

So this week will mark 4 years since I've come out to my mother. As time has moved on, I haven't really taken the time to appreciate how wonderful it is to be completely unhinged about how my life is going when my mother asks. I really don't stop to let out a grateful sigh when my mother asks me about my love life because I no longer have to beat around the bush about my true feelings. It's comforting that I don't have to hide in the closet as much, and I say that because I still have a ways to go with being open about who I am to the people who matter the most to me. But since the main love…
  • So about the porn post . . .

    13 Apr 2014 | 2:14 pm
From the previous post, I could've spent paragraphs upon paragraphs breaking everything down about my porn hoarding ways, but I really do like to be succinct with my entries, yet I constantly fail. As mentioned, I think I know why my porn game game is strong. Judging from a good chunk of my posts so far this year, I think you may know why too.If not, check out posts here and here. Making some sense? No? Well, let me try to explain. It didn't hit me as to why I may have a hold on so much porn until recently. I had a good conversation with my dude, urging him to assist me in expressing myself…
  • Musings 7 . . . Hoarding (Porn addition)

I think it's safe to say that at some point in our Internet browsing lives, we've been "that guy" who would get incredibly bothered at the sight of men who constantly showed off their amazingly pumped gym bodies and boasted about how much sex they were getting regularly from random oglers and fuck buddies. Or, am I the only one who got a little irked at dudes who continually flaunted their tight abs, bulging pecs, thick calves, and rotund firm asses? We see it all day, every day on any website that allows media uploads, with obnoxious hash-tags to boot. We see the vanity, we see the…

The most important update is that I own the domain name www.BamaBoiBlues.com, which I'm really happy to announce! So, you no longer have to type in the full Blogger web address.I do plan to do more with this blog, and by obtaining the domain name, it gives me motivation to do more. I just want to thank you for being patient with me. Much love to you all! Catch the…

  • Kylie Minogue – “Kiss Me Once”

by Alexander Wu (Out Impact on Facebook, Out Impact on Twitter) After several years since her last full album, Kylie Minogue (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram) is back! Coming out with her first album in 1988, Kiss Me Once is her twelfth release. Citing Katy Perry, Destiny’s Child, and Lady Gaga as few of her many influences, you can definitely hear her inspiration and her own originality in this album. In recent months, pop music has continued to top the charts, and this album is another powerhouse in the genre. With an old-school Madonna type sound meeting new techno like…

  • Faux lesbian is the new faux fur: MTV’s ‘Faking It’

    shannon
    22 Apr 2014 | 11:15 pm
BY LESBIAN.COM If you were a lesbian in high school somewhere other than MTV’s mythic Texas high school where outcast is in, then you know all about faking it. Suspend your disbelief as MTV’s new sitcom “Faking It” turns high school caste order on its head as two outcast BFFs are mistaken for GFs and become uber-popular as a result. The redeeming twist: One half of this faux couple may have authentic Sapphic feelings. Someone get her an Indigo Girls CD to match her overalls. Here’s the play-by-play from Lesbian.com’s live tweeting of the show’s pilot.

BY TENA PARKER Success Just Clicks for Lesbian.com Believe it or not, I find that leashes very frequently become weights holding back the potential for training. The more one relies on the leash during the beginning stages of training, the more it hinders training at higher levels. Yes, of course, leashes are often necessary for safety’s sake and for the law, but they often get in the way of teaching reliable behaviors without the leash. The number of dogs I see who behave beautifully on leash and who are less than stellar off leash is pretty large. There are three big issues I generally…

BY CANDY PARKER Lesbian.com While a recent Harris Interactive poll demonstrated that gays and lesbians are markedly more likely than heterosexuals to describe themselves as “caring a great deal about the current state and future of the environment,” I must confess that I was late in jumping on the clean energy-powered bandwagon. Recycling was a hit or miss proposition, walking or biking rather than driving rarely crossed my mind. I paid little attention to the eco-friendly practices, or lack thereof, of a particular business when deciding whether or not to bestow my patronage. It is…

Above is a screenshot of the top of a letter I authored to my parents that I will be giving to them on Saturday. It is my attempt at a quirky, light-hearted, how-do-I-explain-this-? coming out letter. It is my best effort at explaining my queer-ness to them as well as asking them to support me as I begin low dose testosterone. I can’t decide if it will make them laugh or convince them that I have gone off the deep end. Here is the snippet which directly references socks: “I can compare my state of being to the socks I’m wearing. On my right foot is a white sock: functional, very…
