The gay porn studio Broke Straight Boys has finally debuted what we presume to be the first episode of the “reality television show” they’ve been touting for over a year. Originally, the show was supposed to follow gay-for-pay porn performers as they live in a house together, like a Big Brother with orgies and no evictions. The clip below, which is entirely SFW and actually quite humbling, instead follows one of the studio’s top gay-for-pay models on a trip back home to discuss his gay porn career with his mother, father, and two straight brothers. The first statistics on same-sex marriage are out, showing around 1,400 weddings took place in the first three months of the new law coming into effect for Wales and England. The majority of men and women marrying had never been married or in a civil partnership before (the ONS notes that this is the case for 91% of male couples and 79% of female couples). Marriage appears to be slightly more popular with women than with men – 56% of same-sex couples are women. There were 95 same-sex marriages in the first three days, and numbers have grown slightly each month. This is probably more to…

John Stemberger is an aggressively anti-LGBT man who has been responsible for most of the hostile efforts we've faced in the Sunshine State over the past decade. He's also the founder of the anti-gay scouting group that launched simply because the Boy Scouts began accepting gay youth. So it's no surprise that that he's unhappy with the fifth ruling in his state—four state courts and one latest federal decision—to declare the discriminatory marriage amendment that he championed to be unconstitutional. But Stemberger, in characteristic fashion, is taking his pity party just a step further.

One of the things that the Affordable Care Act (aka ACA, aka Obamacare) was meant to do was make sure that people with pre-existing medical problems could get health insurance. And that their insurance was affordable.  But that may not be the case with some insurance companies. What these insurance companies seem to be doing is targeting prospective patients who have medical illnesses that require a lot of treatment and placing obstacles in their way to getting insured with the offending companies. These are patients who may require expensive medications, very frequent doctor visits,…

Like many writers, I love word games, and am eager to get a copy of the just-published fifth edition of The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary, which includes more than 5000 new words. One of the new entries is the Yiddish word “schmutz” — and for those of you unclear on its meaning (hint: it’s not the same as schmuck), Judy Gold, a “comedian, actress, writer, and Jewish mother” (also a lesbian mom) is here to help you out. Watch Gold offer a brief, hysterical tutorial below about how to use the word “schmutz.” The Jewish Daily Forward has…

Oscar winning actor and legendary stand-up comedian Robin Williams died last week, at his own hand after struggling with depression, addiction, and other health issues. His death was shocking and sad, and has in the media and online worlds brought out the best and the worst ... look at Jimmy Fallon's touching tribute as an example of the best, and the venom spewed at Williams' daughter Zelda by internet trolls as the worst.Maybe people will learn something about depression, or just about kindness, from all of this?I loved Williams in everything from Mork and Mindy to Aladdin and Good Will…

A couple wearing wedding dresses recently married in Russia, despite the country's total ban on same-sex marriage and Vladimir Putin's well-known crackdown on the public expression of LGBT identities. But as the UK's Metro reports, it's not because authorities have had a change of heart -- it's because they were relatively powerless to stop it: They appear to be two young women who are tying the knot in a same-sex marriage - but when you delve deeper, the reality is considerably more complicated. This is because the brides, who appear near identical in their wedding photos, are actually a…

Color me shocked... Men who take virginity pledges in their teens end up having fucked up sex lives once they're married according to a new study. Sarah Diefendorf, a sociology doctoral candidate at the University of Washington in Seattle, has discovered that the evangelical indoctrinating causes psychological problems for men confused by the sudden change in the church's attitude toward sex. Once they get married, sex goes from dirty to sacred and the rigid dichotomy is hard for them to wrap their head around. Men are given support with their virginity pledge before they get married by…

  • Study: People Think Same-Sex Couples Are Less 'In Love'

    John M. Becker
    22 Aug 2014 | 10:00 am
A new study out of Indiana University suggests that how "in love" people perceive a couple to be depends in large part on whether the couple in question is gay or straight. Perhaps more disturbing, couples that respondents perceived to be more "in love" were judged to be more worthy of formal and informal rights. And as one might expect, a starkly heterosexist hierarchy emerged, with opposite-sex couples being perceived as more "in love" -- and therefore more deserving of basic rights and protections -- than same-sex couples. Via press release: Long Doan, a doctoral student in the Department…

When I first began to walk down the streets of Lesbianville – I was searching the internet for anything I could find that had anything to do with groups of like minded women gathering in one place. I wanted to get out of the burbs and make myself some amazing memories in the city. And one day – I found what I was looking for. BACK LOT BASH is about to kick off its 11th woman’s festival that has evolved into a 4 day LGBTQ social extravaganza – and that is only the beginning. Every year I look forward to the sights and sounds of Back Lot – when Andersonville comes alive…

Guz Viewz – The perspective from our Senior Editor and word wrangler, Kathy Guzman. Just three days ago – in a once upon a time and oh so long ago place – I would have celebrated my 28th wedding anniversary with a man I had married when I was barely in my 20’s. We were not made for each other and not destined to live the dream together forever and ever – traditional as that time in my life may have seemed. Two amazingly beautiful Costa Rican Irish babies and a history that is tucked away in a safe place of understanding is all that is left of that life. So my mind wanders through…

  • The Myth of the Grandmother Vs. the Reality

There were times during the sixteen years my grandmother and I weren’t speaking that I thought I’d never actually see or have a conversation with her again. I’d prepared myself for this and had gotten to the point where I was perfectly okay with it. Grandma and I have never been close, not really. I’ve talked a bit about her past before (married to a womanizing alcoholic who beat her and burned her clothes, then married another alcoholic etc., raised four kids, three of who have issues beyond belief), so she had her hands full. My coming into her life as the first grandchild really…

You’ve heard some of the reasons folks give for downloading pirated e-books, right? My favorite is always the misguided assumption that we make a ton of money off our books. Stephen King does. J.K. Rowling, too. Even Ann Rice, who I adore and whose work I will never match in intensity and description. But for the majority of the rest of us? Let me put this into perspective for you. I was talking with Honorable Husband Saturday night and a royalty statement came through for the Butt Pirates In Space anthology I was part of last year. The publisher takes their cut, then the rest is split up…

The whole Robin Williams passing was a sucker punch the other day. I learned about it fifteen minutes before J.P. Barnaby and I were going on the air being interviewed as professional bloggers. It doesn’t make for the greatest mindset to be in just before you have to happy, bubbly, and give decent take-away deliverables to a listening audience. Incidentally, I pace when I’m on the phone doing an interview. Consequently, I didn’t see the “90 seconds” warning when asked to give a closing statement. Of that 90 seconds, I think I used 75 seconds and poor J.P. gave a 3 second closing…

Last week with dad was pretty touch and go, but that’s how it is. There are days when he goes with the flow and days he will push every button you have…repeatedly. And when you ask him to stop the behavior, the peace will last for 60-90 seconds and then he’s doing it again with no memory of having done it before. Man, don’t you wish you could have used that excuse when you were a kid? Imagine the things we could have gotten away with! It’s really not quite so funny now, though. Much of the time spent with him is evaluating where his current mental capacity is at and anticipating…

Captain Picard was into Earl Grey tea; mention the Dude and we think: White Russians. What’s your signature beverage — and how did it achieve that status? I have two and both are pretty boring. First, there’s dark roast coffee with cream. This is what I order 90% of the time in a coffeehouse, restaurant or anywhere. I’ll take “normal” coffee and decaf […]

As the last pieces of pageant gig are put away until next time, I’m able to truly reflect on my recent adventure to compete at E.O.Y. and what it meant to me to be onstage once more. I’m also able to realize what I can accomplish, how others support or do not, and if it’s all worth it at the end of the day. This is my journey to the Entertainer of the Year 2014 contest pageant event. Also known as E.O.Y. Enjoy the read. X I arrived to the airport at PSP on-time Tuesday and ready for the competition ahead. At the self-serve kiosk for American Air I checked my one suitcase…
  • Hottest Happenings in Gay Pop Culture

As I head to compete for the national title of Mr. Entertainer of the Year 2014, I realize I haven’t been blogging much here on gay culture. But promise I soon will return to the dish, dirt and delightful drama my words express on a more regular basis. It’s been all about me and that’s alright. When you run a national pageant, meaning chase a crown, you quickly find out who is there for you and who is not. And again, that’s alright. No Tea, No Shade. Semi-colon closed parenthesis. We watched a few horrendous Redbox rentals over the weekend. Non-Stop didn’t give…

When it comes to looking good, I try my best. We work with what we are given, change the fixable and mask the imperfections if we may. Overall I’m very happy with how I look. I don’t consider myself conceited but I do take pride in my image. Not bad for 46, I must beep-beep toot-toot! I try not to stay too wrapped up in my looks because “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder” even though many strive and intend on changing others’ perception of perfection. We all want to be loved and unfortunately often perceive that we must look good to be worthy of…

When we arrived last Saturday afternoon to The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas I was truly elated! I know Jacques was happy to get out of town for a few days and it’s always good for us to have this great escape. The Cosmopolitan is our home away from home when in Sin City. It is special to us and we feel proud to say we stay there. This trip was no exception. And like a friend on Facebook said in response to one of my “look at me I’m in Vegas” posts, what happens in Vegas is shared on my Facebook wall. Here’s what you missed… I love road trips with my man. I…

  • Depression Diaries - Triggers, Anxiety, and Suicide

    Kevin T
    17 Aug 2014 | 6:00 am
Depression is a real disorder, and I can't say that enough. I struggle with it every day. In fact, I've used this blog space to outwardly project my depression, so that I want keep it bottled up. Depression is unhealthy. Continuous negative thoughts will stop you in your tracks and keep you from living a productive life.Sometimes you won't be able to eat, sleep, or socialize. Sometimes you'll eat too much, then sleep it off just to cope with your feelings. Either way, socializing will be difficult, but you'll try your best to put on a happy face just to keep your torment under wraps.

Listen, I love a good Gay Themed movie just like any other gay guy looking to find awesome representations of himself in the media; however, there comes a time in a film where I have to sadly shake my head at the general themes or cliches that come too often in the movies I watch. Call them cliche', call them tired, or call them whatever you want; I just want writers and directors to call it quits with some of these themes. Now, some themes are just part of the story, I understand that, but after a while, these themes become all too predictable and formulaic. In my opinion, some of these…

TumblrOne should never have to question whether or not Paris still burns. Yes, it does. It burns with a fire fueled by eleganza, passion, and beat drops to get the children out of their seats and on to the ballroom floor. The golden age of ballroom culture may no longer exist as depicted in the 1990 cult documentary; however, the fire is still fueled by young visionaries and videographers on the YouTube channel BALLROOMTHROWBACKS, and in my opinion, this YouTube channel is important to our culture and community!Via BALLROOMTHROWBACKS YouTube page description:BALLROOM THROWBACKS ONE OF THE…

I know I have the skills to pull whatever needs to be done on the Internet and beyond, but as much as I'd like to think I know everything, I'm missing a few key pieces to my life goal puzzle. But, it's just not business I'm looking to be better acquainted and possibly coached in doing. My young, gay, black self would like to be mentored into being a better person. From what I've seen over time, young black men are rarely mentored in the first place,…

BY CANDY PARKER Lesbian.com Most of the world was introduced to comedian Erin Foley back in 2000 when she appeared in the iconic Cameron Crowe film “Almost Famous.” My first introduction, however, came seven years later via a Queer Queens of Qomedy show in 2oo7 in which she shared the stage with Poppy Champlin and Jessica Kirson. Since that time, I’ve become a huge fan of Foley’s intelligent brand of comedy, had the opportunity to film an interview with her and earned a healthy respect for her pool volleyball skills having witnessed her “take no prisoners,”…

“When She Was Good: Best Lesbian Erotica” is a collection of inventive and sexy stories of love and lust, curated by acclaimed author and editor Tristan Taormino. This diverse anthology is a wildly seductive ride. The stories are written for us, by us, about us. They are hungry and they are satisfying; they are edgy and vanilla; they are tender and filthy hot. And, according to Margaret Cho, they are all-around “incredible.” Introduced by superstar Sister Spit performer Ali Liebegott, “When She Was Good” goes beyond the ordinary, pushing boundaries in a…
  • Musician Alison May goes deep in ‘Loved/Dark’

BY HEATHER SMITH Lesbian.com When Alison May, a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from Texas took a leap of faith and relocated to Oakland, California, in 2012, the change of scenery helped her focus more on her craft. With this improved focus came a decidedly more complex, layered sound, which is showcased on her sophomore release, “Loved/Dark.” With “Loved/Dark,” May has left us with a collection of intricate and beautiful folk songs that are often times about loss, separation and regret. Profoundly sad, but also subtle and delicate. I took some time to ask May…

I’ve never regretted my decision – George Brush Jr had just been re-elected and I simply couldn’t stand looking at his smug, simian visage for one moment longer. But it did mean that much of popular culture began to pass me by.This is not necessarily a bad thing:It’s not like I was totally out of touch.
